How the registration period works
- The registration period is 30 consecutive calendar days, starting on the day the organization first uses the software. Each legal entity counts separately.
- During it, the organization may use the software, including changing it and running changed versions, for any purpose within the organization and to provide services to its clients. This does not cover selling or otherwise distributing copies of the software, changed or not, outside the organization.
- Each organization gets one registration period, however many people, teams or installations start using the software.
- If the organization sends its registration (an email with the information listed under How to register) within the registration period, the permission continues until the licensor issues a commercial license or declines the registration in writing. If the licensor declines, the permission ends 30 days after the written notice.
- Otherwise, once the registration period has ended, commercial use requires a commercial license from the licensor.
This is an additional permission from the licensor, on top of the licenses in LICENSE; apart from it, the terms of LICENSE apply. The exact wording is in COMMERCIAL.md.
SuDuo never checks, counts or blocks anything. The software works the same with or without registration. Registration is a matter of the license, not of the code.
Is my use commercial?
The license text is the final word. In short:
- A company's team uses SuDuo, even only internally
- Yes: register
- A freelancer or consultant uses SuDuo for paid client work
- Yes: register
- A consultancy deploys SuDuo for a client company
- Yes, for both organizations: one email can register both
- You use SuDuo at home for a hobby project, personal study, or research for the benefit of public knowledge, with no anticipated commercial application
- No
- A school, university or other educational institution, or a public research organization
- No
- A charity, public safety or health organization, environmental protection organization, or government institution

The noncommercial cases follow the Personal Uses and Noncommercial Organizations sections of the license. Use by a company or other for-profit organization is generally commercial use, unless the organization is one of those listed under Noncommercial Organizations (for example, an educational institution).

The full text decides
This page summarizes COMMERCIAL.md and adds no terms of its own. Where it differs from the license or COMMERCIAL.md, those prevail; where COMMERCIAL.md conflicts with LICENSE, LICENSE prevails, except for the additional permission. Where a Chinese translation differs from the English text, the English text prevails.
